Made in Lowell

Liz Smith of Made in Lowell is amazing.

Lately, I’ve been a bit uncertain of where To Boldly Fold is going. It’s been a tough couple weeks, but luckily I’ve had some great talks with Liz.

She is great! Not only does she make amazing felted cupcake pincushions, pins, hair accessories, and cup cozies, but her polymer clay work is something to stare at for hours. She creates polymer clay egg ornaments that are stunning. Take a look here!

A couple weeks ago I visited her studio, which is located in the Western Ave Studios in Lowell, MA. It was hugely inspirational and I’m hoping to one day be able to have some sort of studio situation like Western Ave. They hold an open studios event once a month, and I really wish that all artist studios did that.

Many of the artists turn a portion of their studio into a mini store, and it is something that would be perfect for my work. I really would love to open my own store, but it just isn’t something that’s financially possible at the moment. Sigh.

Anyways, it’s been fantastic being able to talk with someone that has been making and selling handmade work for years, and has so much advice to give. Her blog is chock full of ideas that really make you think and figure out if something is right for you.

Please take a look at her work, and support handmade! She’s been a great inspiration, and is amazing!
